Distressed Alder End Tables
Built for a historic Denver home, these large alder end tables were designed to combine period-appropriate detail with lasting functionality.
Crafted from solid alder with a hand-applied distressed finish, each table captures the warmth and character of antique furniture while providing the durability of modern construction. The breadboard-style top was engineered to allow the wood to expand and contract naturally with seasonal changes, preventing splits and ensuring longevity.
Attention to detail is evident in every element: a dovetailed, solid-wood drawer with full-extension slides for smooth use, square dowels carefully shaped to protrude slightly for authentic joinery character, and a tongue-and-groove lower shelf for both strength and visual appeal.
This project reflects 1879 Design Co.’s ability to design and build custom furniture that feels timeless, honors historic settings, and performs beautifully for daily use.
