How We Work Together
From initial consultation through final installation, we handle every detail. Our process ensures your sign is designed for your specific site, built with traditional craftsmanship and modern engineering, and installed to last through decades of Colorado weather.
Step 1. Initial Consultation
We start with a conversation about your vision. Whether you're looking for an address sign to mark your driveway, a business storefront sign, or a custom design with personal meaning, we'll discuss your needs, site conditions, and design preferences. This can happen by phone, email, or in person at your home.
What we'll cover:
Your property's style and setting
Size, placement, and visibility requirements
Material preferences (wood species, steel finish)
Local sign ordinances and permit requirements
Budget and timeline
Any specific design elements or lettering styles you prefer
Step 2. Design for Your Environment
Based on our consultation, we'll create a custom design proposal that includes detailed sketches or renderings, material specifications, dimensions, and pricing. If your project requires permits, we'll prepare the technical drawings and documentation needed for submission to your local building department or planning commission.
You'll receive:
Design mockup showing your sign's appearance
Material and finish details
Exact dimensions and mounting specifications
Technical drawings for permit applications (if required)
Transparent pricing
Estimated timeline from approval to installation
Permitting guidance: We're familiar with relevant building codes and ordinances and will help you navigate the permitting process related to installing an address or storefront sign. If your property is within Custer County, we’ll take care of the permitting process. If you’re outside of Custer County, we'll provide you the documentation your jurisdiction needs, which may include engineered drawings, wind load calculations, and any other documentation. While you'll submit the permit application as the property owner, we'll guide you through the process and answer any questions from officials.
Step 3. Handcraft with Precision
Once you approve the design, permits are secured (if needed), and we receive your deposit, we begin crafting your sign by hand in our Silver Cliff workshop. We use traditional techniques combined with modern precision to ensure every detail meets our standards for quality, durability, and code compliance. Throughout the process, we'll keep you updated with progress photos.
Our process includes:
Selecting premium materials built for Colorado weather
Precision cutting and shaping according to approved specifications
Hand-finishing and treating for longevity
Quality inspection at every stage
Building to code requirements
Step 4. Install to Code and Beyond
We don't just build your sign—we install it properly. We understand Colorado's climate, from freeze-thaw cycles to high winds, and we ensure your sign is securely mounted to code and built to last for years. For local clients, we handle installation personally. For distant locations, we provide detailed installation instructions and support, including coordination with a qualified installer local to you.
Installation includes:
Site assessment and preparation
Professional mounting using code-compliant hardware
Leveling and positioning for optimal visibility
Final inspection and client walkthrough
Documentation for final permit sign-off (if required)
